Isatis tinctoria Seeds
Isatis tinctoria or Woad is a biannual plant known to have indigo precursors in their leaves. The first year correspond to a vegetative growth where the plant shows a collection of leaves in rosette. The second summer of growth it will develop a long stalk for flowering. Once flowered, the concentration of indigo precursors in the leaves decreases and they are not longer valid to dye with. Thus, the first year is the time to enjoy collecting leaves and dyeing with them.
